STATIONS TODAY

The original Union Station was closed in 1950 and demolished in 1951. In 1950, a new Union Station was built at 220 Grant St. Expansion of the University of Akron has since eliminated Grant St. in that area. But the building remains, now the University's Buckingham Center. Address is now 220 Wolf Ledges Pkwy.

The Howard Street Station station was demolished in the mid 1960's.

In 1947, Erie opened a separate station at Broadway near Exchange St. The building was demolished in 1997, and a bank was constructed at that location, presumably 333 S. Broadway.

Amtrak service over the Baltimore & Ohio route stopped in Akron from 1990 to 1995, and again from 1999 to 2005. During the earlier period, the stop was made by a hotel at 135 S. Broadway. And during the later period, the stop was made at Bowery St. nearby.
