Trackage between 81st St. and Pullman Jct. was originally part of the Chicago & Western Indiana Railroad, owned by several railroads using Dearborn Station. West of 81st Street, Norfolk Southern uses the Belt Railway of Chicago and Metra trackage to reach Landers Yard. Former Chicago & Western Indiana trackage south of Pullman Jct. was abandoned as redundant to former Nickel Plate trackage. Although in the Hegewisch area between Torrence and Burnham, the former Chicago & Western Indiana trackage is actually used, which allowed expansion of a yard in the area.
