Russell's Guide Table Numbers

Greyhound tables had numbers below 700, while Trailways tables had numbers above 7000. Table numbers in between were independent bus companies. Although Greyhound Lines of Canada, not covered here, had tables numbered in the low 700's.

Where no table number is indicated, service had been discontinued by then.

Further clues on Greyhound or Trailways affiliations are the presence of a "G" or a "T" in a company abbreviation. Trailways company abbreviations are followed by a "(T)". While abbreviations of certain Greyhound companies not obviously "Greyhound" in name are followed by a "(G)".

One Greyhound route was eventually sold to Overland Commuter Service, identified by Russell's Guide table number 2825.

GREYHOUND BUS COMPANIES

Atlantic Greyhound Lines (AGL) - incorporated 1936 as merger of Atlantic Greyhound Lines of West Virginia (AGWV), and several other companies. Consolidated 1960 into Southern Division of Greyhound. Atlantic Greyhound Lines of West Virginia had been incorporated in 1928 as Blue & Gray Lines, renamed in 1931 to Atlantic Greyhound Lines of West Virginia.

Capitol Greyhound Lines (CPG) - incorporated 1930, consolidated 1955 into Eastern Division of Greyhound.

In 1955, Eastern Greyhound Lines acquired Blue Ridge Transportation Co. (BRL), which had been formed in 1923 as a bus subsidiary of Potomac Edison, formerly Hagerstown & Frederick Railway.

In 1955, Greyhound Lines acquired West Virginia Transportation Co. (WVT), which had been formed in 1929 as bus subsidiary of Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.

TRAILWAYS BUS COMPANIES

Consolidated Bus Lines/Consolidated Trailways (CBL) - formed 1926 by J. E. Craft, incorporated 1933 as Consolidated Bus Lines, in 1954 joined Trailways, in 1956 merged into Virginia Stage Lines/Virginia Trailways, sold 1966 to Transcontinental Bus System/Continental Trailways.
