AMERICA'S STREAMLINERS

CHICAGO AND NORTH WESTERN

(PRE WW II)

The Chicago & North Western's streamlined trains were known as the 400's, initially operating between Chicago and the Twin Cities. Additional 400 trains operated from Chicago to Milwaukee and Green Bay and beyond, along with some trains serving Madison. Three sets of equipment were required for these additional 400 trains, making various round trips through specific cycles. Schedules were generally different on Sundays, with fewer trains just between Chicago and Milwaukee, and more trains operating further north to the recreational parts of Wisconsin.

Chicago & North Western also provided an entrance into Chicago for Union Pacific, for its "Cities" trains operating to and from the west coast.
