The most significant railroad serving Sacramento was Southern Pacific, with a main line between Oakland and Ogden UT. SP also operated a line south through Stockton, connecting with SP's San Joaquin Division. And the two SP "Valley" lines extended north to Tehama, where they combined into one main line north to Portland. Amtrak continues to operate over the main line, to Stockton, and north of Roseville. Also serving Sacramento, and operating out of a separate station, was Western Pacific, with its main line between Oakland and Salt Lake City.
