South of Denver to Colorado Springs and Pueblo, Santa Fe and Rio Grande jointly operated a paired track arrangement. Burlington Route subsidiary Colorado & Southern also had trackage rights via Santa Fe. And Missouri Pacific trains used Rio Grande to serve Denver. Using the north end of Denver Union Station was the Burlington Route main line east to Omaha and Chicago, Burlington Route subsidiary Colorado & Southern operating north to Wendover WY, and Union Pacific's Wyoming Division north to Cheyenne and points west and the Kansas Division east to Kansas City. Also using the C&S line north was the Rio Grande main line via Moffatt Tunnel west to Salt Lake City. In 1947, Rio Grande absorbed the Denver & Salt Lake Railway, which previously used a separate station. Denver Union Terminal Railway Co. operated the station. Amtrak continues to operate via the Burlington and Rio Grande lines. And previously at various times in Amtrak's history, UP's Wyoming Division was used.
