ADDITIONAL CITIES/STATIONS

PHILADELPHIA AREA

Major cities which are part of the distant Philadelphia metropolitan area, and have been served by commuter and intercity local trains terminating in Philadelphia.

SEPTA commuter rail service continues to operate from Philadelphia to Wilmington. And Amtrak continues to operate from Philadelphia to Lancaster and Harrisburg, and beyond to Pittsburgh.

Diesel powered commuter rail service operated over the former Reading Railroad lines from Philadelphia to Bethlehem and to Reading and beyond to Pottsville, discontinued in 1981. And Reading Railroad operated service from Allentown via Reading to Harrisburg, discontinued in 1963.


ALLENTOWN/BETHLEHEM

Lehigh Valley Station/Allentown
Location: 378 Hamilton St.
Railroad: Lehigh Valley
Demolished 1952.

Central of New Jersey-Reading Station/Allentown
Opened in 1890
Location: 318 Hamilton St.
Railroads: Central of New Jersey, Reading
Building still stands.

Union Station/Bethlehem
Location: 240 Union Station Plaza
Railroads: Lehigh Valley, Reading
Building still stands.

Central of New Jersey Station/Bethlehem
Opened in 1890
Location: 77 W. Lehigh St.
Railroad: Central of New Jersey
Building still stands.

Intercity service discontinued via Lehigh Valley in 1961, and on Central Railroad of New Jersey in 1967.
