The CNJ station is visible from Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains using the present Northeast Corridor trackage. Until 1967, this was the CNJ main line, terminating at Jersey City. In 1967, CNJ commuter trains were transferred to the Newark Pennsylvania Railroad station, using former Lehigh Valley trackage between Newark and Cranford. Until 1978, shuttle trains continued to operate between Cranford and Bayonne, near Jersey City, and stopped at Elizabeth. After that time, the former CNJ line was abandoned through Elizabeth.
