The first three bus routes were originally created in 1974 by the village of Wilmette, under the name "Wilbus". In 1995, Pace opened its North Shore Division, with the new division assuming the routes from Wilmette. And additional routes were created in subsequent years. All present day routes on this page are operated by the North Shore Division.
421 - Wilmette Ave. - introduced 3/18/74, replacing segments of Glenview Bus Co. routes #1, #2, and #5. Originally operated as far northwest as Edens Plaza, later extended north to Northfield.
422 - Lake Ave. - introduced 3/18/74, replacing segments of Glenview Bus Co. route #4. Operated as far west as Old Orchard Shopping Center until 3/20/2005, when as part of a major restructuring of north suburban Pace routes, extended west and north to Northbrook Court Mall, replacing segment of route #212. Also effective 3/20/2005, some runs operated by Pace Northwest Division.
423 - Sheridan Rd. - introduced 3/18/74, serving new areas. Originally operated as far north as Plaza Del Lago, later extended north to Winnetka and Northfield. Effective 3/20/2005 as part of a major restructuring of north suburban Pace routes, route extended southwest through newly developing area at former location of Glenview Naval Air Station, and south of Glenview via Harlem Ave. replacing route #228. Also effective 3/20/2005, some runs operated by Pace Northwest Division, those runs eliminated in 2014.
424/425 - Avon Express - introduced 9/30/96 to serve Avon Headquarters at Golf Rd. and Waukegan Rd. Route 424 originally operated via Roosevelt Rd. from Cicero Ave. to the Dan Ryan Expressway, then nonstop to Avon. While originally route 425 operated via Cermak Rd. from Cicero Ave. to the Dan Ryan Expressway, then nonstop to Avon. Effective 5/13/2002 restructured to a single route 424, operating between the Irving Park CTA Blue Line station and Avon. Replaced 6/24/2002 by CTA route 98.
426 - Northwestern University Shuttle - express route introduced 9/4/2000, operated under contract with Northwestern University, connecting Evanston and Chicago campuses. Discontinued 9/21/2007.
Route No. 1 - operated between Davis St. CTA station in Evanston, and Glenview Naval Air Station, primarily via Green Bay Rd., Wilmette Ave., Old Orchard Shopping Center, and Glenview Rd. Effective 3/18/74 after the Glenview Bus Co. ceased operations, United Motor Coach Co. introduced "Emergency Route" #1 to replace this route, except operating from the CTA Skokie Swift station. Service via Wilmette Ave. assumed by Wilbus, now Pace route #421 and originating at the Linden Ave. CTA terminal. And service west of Old Orchard via Glenview Rd. assumed by Nortran, now Pace route #212, and effective 3/20/2005, Pace route #422. Emergency Route #1 was soon discontinued, with service west of Waukegan Rd. in Glenview redundant to what now is Pace route #210.
Route No. 2 - operated between Davis St. CTA station in Evanston, and Wheeling, primarily via Green Bay Rd., Lake Ave. in Wilmette, Edens Plaza shopping center, Waukegan Rd. in Glenview, and Dundee Rd. in Northbrook. Effective 3/18/74 after the Glenview Bus Co. ceased operations, United Motor Coach Co. introduced "Emergency Route" #2 to replace this route, except operating via Golf Road between Davis St. and Old Orchard, part replacing former Evanston Bus Co. route #8 which had been discontinued the previous year. Service via Lake Ave. assumed by Wilbus and originating at the Linden Ave. CTA terminal, eventually becoming Pace routes #421 and #422. Emergency Route #2 later became Pace route #212, and effective 3/20/2005, Pace route #422. And service via Dundee Rd. into Wheeling no longer exists.
Route No. 3 - operated between Davis St. CTA station in Evanston, and Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles. Between Evanston and Glenview, used same routing as Route No. 2. Effective 3/18/74 after the Glenview Bus Co. ceased operations, United Motor Coach Co. introduced "Emergency Route" #3 to replace this route, except operating via Golf Road between Davis St. and Old Orchard, part replacing a former Evanston Bus Co. which had been discontinued the previous year. Emergency Route #3 was discontinued 11/30/75, with service between Glenview Rd. and Waukegan Rd. (downtown Glenview) and Golf Mill transferred to new Pace route #220, discontinued 3/20/2005.

In addition, a route 6 existed until the early 1970's, introduced in 1963 after North Shore Line ceased operations, operating during rush hours between Glenview and Northbrook.
