CMC BUS ROUTES

Bus routes originally operated by Chicago Motor Coach Co.

CMC discontinued a number of routes effective 12/1/42, partially in response to wartime demands for gasoline and tires. And a few other routes were discontinued at various times. Many routes survived into the CTA era.


1 Drexel-Hyde Park

Introduced 4/15/23, to CTA route 1 10/1/52, now route 1 Indiana-Hyde Park.


2 Hyde Park Local

Introduced 5/6/23, to CTA route 2 10/1/52, discontinued 9/9/73.


2 Hyde Park Express

Introduced 6/25/51, to CTA route 2 10/1/52, remains in operation.


3 South Park (King Drive)

Introduced 12/19/23, to CTA route 3 10/1/52, remains in operation.


4 South Park-Midway

Route proposed in 1923, never operated.


4 Jeffery Local

Introduced 12/15/46, to CTA route 5 10/1/52, discontinued 9/9/72.


4 Jeffery Express

Introduced 12/16/46, to CTA route 5 10/1/52, renumbered 10/13/75 to route 6, restructured 8/31/2003 to present routes 6 and 14.


5 Washington Park

Route proposed in 1923, never operated.


6 Garfield

Introduced 7/2/23, to CTA route 6 10/1/52, now route 55 Garfield.


7 Midway Plaisance

Introduced 5/30/23, discontinued 12/1/42.

Operated between downtown and Stony Island/Midway Plaisance, primarily via Michigan, Garfield, South Park (now King Drive), and Midway Plaisance.


8 Garfield-Beach

Route proposed in 1923, never operated.


9 Normal Blvd.

Introduced 10/1/23, discontinued 12/1/42.

Operated between Drexel Blvd./Hyde Park Blvd. and Marquette Rd./Normal Blvd., primarily via Garfield and Normal.


10 Loomis

Introduced 10/1/23, to CTA route 110 10/1/52, discontinued 10/5/97.

CMC route 10 originally operated between Washington Park and Marquette Rd./Loomis Blvd. via Garfield and Loomis. Effective 5/14/24 became a branch of route 6 Garfield. Effective 12/1/42, route 11 service on Marquette discontinued east of Loomis Blvd., with service on Marquette west of Loomis replaced by extension of CMC route 10.


11 Marquette

Introduced 10/1/23, combined into route 10 12/1/42.

CMC route 11 originally operated west from Stony Island Ave. to St. Louis Ave., via Marquette Rd. Effective 12/1/42, route 11 service on Marquette discontinued east of Loomis Blvd., with service on Marquette west of Loomis replaced by extension of CMC route 10.


12 South Chicago

Introduced 10/1/23, discontinued 12/1/42.

Operated between Midway Plaisance/Stony Island and 92nd/South Chicago, primarily via South Shore Dr,. 83rd St., Exchange Ave.


17 Jackson Park-Worlds Fair

Operated in 1933 and 1934 for Century of Progress Worlds Fair.


18 Hyde Park-Worlds Fair

Operated in 1933 and 1934 for Century of Progress Worlds Fair.


20 Drexel-Worlds Fair

Operated in 1933 for Century of Progress Worlds Fair.


26 Jackson

Operated between Jackson/Sacramento and Peterson/Kimball, via Sacramento, Franklin, Central Park, Wilson, Kimball. Effective 3/8/30, route basically discontinued.

Introduced 10/12/25, Narragansett segment replaced by CSL trolleybus route 86 6/29/30, Austin segment combined into CTA route 91 2/1/53.


34 Diversey

36 Douglas
