TEMPORARY BUS GARAGES

ARDMORE GARAGE
5847 N. Broadway (near Ardmore Ave.)
Used as car house for streetcars 1893-1902
Opened as bus garage July 1, 1937
Capacity in 1943: 49 buses inside/12 buses outside
Closed May 29, 1950
Replaced by North Park Garage
Building remains standing, abandoned

Garage administered from Devon car house.
1943-1945 administered from Lawrence garage, with Ardmore garage used for storage of buses.

LAWRENCE GARAGE
5301 W. Lawrence Ave. (near Milwaukee Ave.)
Opened January 27, 1943
Capacity in 1943: 31 buses inside
Closed May 30, 1954
Replaced by Forest Glen Garage
Building demolished in 2002, occupied by a bank until 1999

Established temporarily as bus garage during World War II, in order to reduce deadhead distance and conserve fuel.

TEMPORARY BUS STORAGE AREAS

The isolated nature of the short lived Kimball trolleybus route required the storage and routine servicing of trolleybuses at a remote location. And during World War II, in order to reduce deadhead distance and conserve fuel, four yards were temporarily set up for the storage of buses.
