In 1958, locomotives 400 and 401 had their Fairbanks-Morse engines replaced with GM-EMD engines. All locomotives 1-499 were withdrawn from suburban service by 1968. Locomotives 610-677 were in service as of 1975, with some E8's used for the remaining intercity trains to Rock Island and Peoria. Locomotives 657-665 were acquired from Union Pacific in 1969. AB6's 750-751 were retired in the early 1970's. These were basically E6B's with a flat cab, and originally had only one engine and a baggage compartment. They were designed to operate behind regular E6A's on the "Rocky Mountain Rocket" between Chicago and Limon, Co. West of Limon, a single AB6 would pull a few cars over a branch line to Colorado Springs. In 1965, the AB6's received the "missing" engines when they were equipped for suburban service.
Some of this locomotive roster information is from "The 5:10 to Suburbia" by Robert P. Olmsted and Joe McMillan, and the magazine Extra 2200 South.
