Historically never was a major passenger railroad. But in 1980 and 1981, Amtrak service existed on the segment between Chenoa and East Peoria, using the former Alton main line between Chicago and Chenoa. This was a partial attempt to replace former Rock Island service between Chicago and Peoria, discontinued in 1978.
