West of 100th Street was a drawbridge over the Calumet River. That bridge was damaged by a boat beyond repair in 1988, and trains now use the paralleling Norfolk Southern, former Pennsylvania Railroad bridge. West of Rock Island Jct., the original Baltimore & Ohio line into Chicago proceeded northwest to Brookdale, joining the Illinois Central main line near 67th Street. In 1892, trains began using Grand Central Station, using trackage rights west over the Rock Island line to Beverly Hills. Certain passenger trains continued to terminate at Brookdale until 1931.
