The Hammond Transit System (HTS) had operated with second hand General Motors RTS buses, including #5782, built in 1978. HTS acquired this former Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus in 1993, seen near the Hammond Transit Center.
In 1998, the Hammond Transit System acquired new "Transit Liner" buses from Thomas, and numbered the new buses according to the year built. #9801 is the model "MVP-ER", seen near the Hammond Transit Center.
In 1998, Thomas also supplied the Hammond Transit System with some shorter "Transit Liner" buses, model "MVP-EF", including #9805, seen near the Hammond Transit Center.
In 2002 and 2003, the Hammond Transit System acquired 7 low floor "Opus" model buses from Chance, including #0203, seen near Woodmar Mall in Hammond.
The free bus system operated by East Chicago Transit utilizes Gillig buses, including #2001, seen near Woodmar Mall in Hammond in 2003. This is a 35 foot "Phantom" model.
In 2006 and 2007, East Chicago Transit acquired 4 Gillig 35 foot low floor models. Including #2006B, seen at the East Chicago train station in 2016.
