A sampling of Amtrak train activity in the Chicago area, mostly during the mid 1990's.

Amtrak's "Pere Marquette" speeds south away from Union Station past US Cellular Field, on its way to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

An Amtrak train from Detroit to Chicago arrives at Michigan City.

Amtrak's "Illini" southbound on Illinois Central trackage near 18th Street. Visible to the right are the Metra Electric shops and Soldier Field, when Soldier Field looked more respectable. The train is on its way from Chicago to Carbondale.

Amtrak's Hoosier State heads north over Union Pacific tracks through Dolton, on its way from Indianapolis to Chicago. The Superliner car behind the locomotive is being shuttled north from Amtrak's Beech Grove shops in Indianapolis, as often done with this train. Photo was taken in 1993, before the Hoosier State was discontinued, and later reinstated.

Not an Amtrak train. But along the route near Kewanee, Illinois, Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 #261 is seen westbound on a photo run by, on an excursion trip to Galesburg on May 21, 2000.
