AMERICA'S STREAMLINERS

RIO GRANDE

(POST WW II)

The Prospector operated briefly in the 1940's, using two car self propelled diesel trains. The Prospector returned in 1950, using cars originally ordered by the Chesapeake & Ohio, which had overly ambitious plans to introduce the finest passenger trains available. But the Chesapeake & Ohio found it necessary to curtail many of the car orders, and several cars were instead delivered to the Rio Grande.

Rio Grande's more famous train was the California Zephyr, operated jointly with the Burlington Route and Western Pacific.

Only streamlined trains and the most important stations are shown.
