AMERICA'S STREAMLINERS

SOUTHERN PACIFIC

(PRE WW II)

Southern Pacific used shrouded steam locomotives for its pre war streamliners. The original premier train was the Daylight, introduced in 1937 between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Train was reequipped in 1940 and renamed the Morning Daylight, with the original 1937 consists going to the new Noon Daylight. But the Noon Daylight was suspended during World War II, with those consists then going to the San Joaquin Daylight.

Southern Pacific also participated with Union Pacific in operation of trains operating east of San Francisco, most notably the City of San Francisco.
