Hartford Union Station

New Haven emerged as the only railroad serving Hartford. In addition to the main line extending north from New Haven to Springfield, formerly passing through Hartford was the New York & New England Railroad. That railroad extended west from Boston through Willimantic, and west through Hartford to Waterbury and Danbury. And that railroad was leased to New Haven beginning in 1898. The two lines crossed at what was known as SS214 (Signal Station), 1/2 mile north of Union Station, and paralleled each other south to 5 miles south of Union Station.
