The F-units were converted to HEP between 1960 and 1965. E9A 33C was converted to HEP in 1969, using a constant speed rear engine instead of a separate Cummins diesel engine. The other E9's were the only E-units ever built new with Cummins HEP generators, instead of steam generators.

The F-units were retired in 1974, while the E9's were retired between 1985 and 1989. E9's 33C and 37A went to the Illinois Railway Museum.

Some of this locomotive roster information is from the magazine Extra 2200 South.
