TRANSIT FACILITIES IN MADISON
CAR HOUSES/BUS GARAGES
Present and past.
Madison Railways Co. had its car house at 166 Fair Oaks Ave., on the west side of the street. This was on the east side of the city at the end of the Fair Oaks streetcar route. This facility became the bus garage for the Madison Bus Co., and was in service until 1980. Some of the buildings are still standing.
In 1980, the present Madison Metro garage opened at 1101 E. Washington Ave., east of downtown Madison, on the south side of the street.
Madison Metro has no formal downtown bus terminal. But most bus routes pass the square where the State Capitol is located.
