TRANSIT FACILITIES IN LAFAYETTE
CAR HOUSES/BUS GARAGES
Present and past.
In 1893, a car house was completed at 920 Ferry St., immediately east of downtown. In 1910, an additional car house was opened at 26th St. and Kossuth St. southeast of downtown, but that car house was destroyed in a fire in 1915. The 920 Ferry St. facility eventually evolved into a bus garage.
Under public ownership, the Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation bus garage is located at 1250 Canal Rd., on the west side of the street.
The main downtown bus terminal is located at 316 N. 3rd St., on the west side of the street. The facility also serves Greyhound. Nearby is the Amtrak station, where an older train station building had been relocated and reassembled.
