2001 S. Dearborn St.

Opened in 1905, rotary converters 25 hertz.

Originally installed 1 1,200 kilowatt and 3 1,000 kilowatt rotary converters.
1906 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 6,200 kilowatts.
1907 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 8,200 kilowatts.
1908 relocated 1 1,200 kilowatt rotary converter to Plymouth Court.
1908 added 2 2,000 kilowatt rotary converters, total 11,000 kilowatts.
1910 relocated 1 1,000 kilowatt rotary converter to South Chicago.
1910 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 12,000 kilowatts.

Also served elevated lines.
Modernized 1966 with rectifiers 60 hertz.

Building demolished around 2004.


42ND STREET
(Sub-Station No. 2)
4200 S. Wabash Ave.

Opened in 1907, rotary converters 25 hertz.

Originally installed 3 2,000 kilowatt rotary converters, total 6,000 kilowatts.
1908 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 8,000 kilowatts.
1909 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 10,000 kilowatts.
1921 relocated 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter to 44th Street, total 8,000 kilowatts.

Also served elevated lines in later years.
Modernized 1966 with rectifiers 60 hertz.

Closed around 2006.
Building remains standing.


63RD STREET
(Sub-Station No. 3)
6326 S. Wentworth Ave.

Opened in 1905, rotary converters 25 hertz.

Originally installed 3 1,000 kilowatt rotary converters.
1907 added 2 2,000 kilowatt rotary converters, total 7,000 kilowatts.
1909 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 9,000 kilowatts.
1910 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 11,000 kilowatts.
1921 relocated 1 1,000 kilowatt rotary converter to Roseland, total 10,000 kilowatts.
1923 relocated 1 1,000 kilowatt rotary converter to Grand Crossing, total 9,000 kilowatts.

Also served elevated lines.

Replaced 1962 by Princeton substation.
Building demolished 1962 due to Dan Ryan expressway construction.


48TH STREET
(Sub-Station No. 4)
4800 S. Honore Ave.

Opened in 1909, rotary converters 25 hertz.

Originally installed 4 2,000 kilowatt rotary converters, total 8,000 kilowatts.

Closed around 1950's or 1960's.
Building remains standing.


82ND STREET
(Sub-Station No. 5)
8203 S. Halsted St.

Opened in 1915, rotary converters 25 hertz.

Originally installed 2 4,000 kilowatt rotary converters, total 8,000 kilowatts.

Closed around 1950's.
Building demolished around 2000.


44TH STREET
(Sub-Station No. 6)
3140 W. 44th St. (near Kedzie Ave.)

Opened in 1914, rotary converters 25 hertz.

Originally installed 1 4,000 kilowatt rotary converter, total 4,000 kilowatts.
1921 added 1 2,000 kilowatt rotary converter from 42nd Street, total 6,000 kilowatts.

Fed trolleybus lines until 1969, building demolished shortly after.


ARGO
63rd St. and Oak Park Ave.

Temporary portable substation opened in 1942, rectifiers 60 hertz.

Closed 1953.


79TH STREET
2414 W. 79th St. (near Western Ave.)

Opened in 1944, rectifiers 60 hertz.

Served streetcar lines until 1956, building demolished shortly after.
