PRIVATE SUBURBAN BUS COMPANIES

In addition to Kansas City Transit prior to the public takeover, several bus companies had provided service in the suburbs, most becoming part of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority. Information is generally sketchy for some of these companies.

How these routes evolved into routes operated by KCATA, is covered at the Route History page.

Argentine Transit Lines - served Kansas City Kansas and northern Johnson County.

Benskin Bus Lines - operated various school routes in Kansas City Kansas, became absorbed through extensions of existing routes.

Finley-Shotwell Bus Lines - had operated to Harrisonville, cut back to Belton.

Gladstone Bus Lines - acquired by KCATA.

Jefferson Lines - acquired by KCATA.

Pioneer Bus Lines - acquired by KCATA.

Schneider Bus Lines - acquired by KCATA.

Johnson County Lines - subsidiary of Continental Trailways, served Johnson County with routes primarily on Antioch, Metcalf, Nall Avenue, and Mission Road. Originally acquired by Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, service transferred to Johnson County Transit.

Kansas City & Leavenworth Bus Co. - operated interurban route between those two cities, along with local service in Leavenworth. Operations shut down prior to public takeover.
