When there were attempts by the public sector to provide bus systems in this area, there was little resemblance between them and the Chicago & Calumet District Transit Co. bus system. Hammond and East Chicago were left without transit service for several years in the 1970's, and Hammond has generally been unsupportive in maintaining public transportation.

Dashed lines indicate rush hour only routes, primarily serving various industries in the area, along with routes providing commuter service into downtown Chicago.

A special thanks goes to Chicago bus historian Andre Kristopans, for supplying information on these bus routes. Dashed line rush hour routings are not absolutely certain, due to a lack of printed timetables issued by Chicago & Calumet District Transit Co.
