CERTIFICATES OF CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY/BONDED CARRIER

These were identified as "Bonded Carrier Cases", with the certificate number preceded with "BC". Except for four early certificates, the certificate number included a number for the operator or company, and a letter for an individual route. Some letters were unknown or not included, as not all certificate issuances were fully documented in the Opinions and Decisions of the Wisconsin Railroad Commission.

EARLY MILWAUKEE AREA BUS COMPANIES

In the early 1920's, prior to regulation, The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Co. emerged as the primary operator of buses in the Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin area. Actually through a subsidiary, Wisconsin Motor Bus Lines. Some additional independent bus companies attempted to operate in the area. But nearly all independent companies soon after were either acquired by, or driven out of business through competition by Wisconsin Motor Bus Lines.
